Ethnic Candle holder

Small objects can transform a space. Our wheel-thrown candle holders bring the organic warmth of Nepali stoneware to your table, mantle, or windowsill — each one holding a tealight in a form that has been refined over more than thirty years of production.
Materials Used
- Clay body: earthenware or stoneware depending on the design — material noted per SKU
- Glazes: mineral-based in pure white, grey, mustard, cobalt blue, and terracotta tones
- Tealight compatible: standard 38 mm tealight candles fit all holders in this range
- Kiln-fired at high temperature for heat resistance and long-term structural durability
- Glaze finishes include matte, shine, and two-tone effects — see individual product images
Artisan Story
Candle holders are one of Sana Hastakala's original product lines — developed in the early 1990s as the organisation sought to create export-quality ceramics that could sustain artisan livelihoods year-round. Today, the same families who pioneered these forms continue to produce them. Each holder is thrown on the wheel, trimmed, glazed by hand, and kiln-fired — a process that takes approximately 45 minutes of skilled labour per piece, not counting drying and firing time. The consistency you see across the range is the result of decades of accumulated craft knowledge, not mechanical standardisation.
Fair Trade Impact
- Consistent wholesale and export orders provide year-round employment, avoiding the seasonal income gaps common in craft production
- Sana Hastakala pays above-market rates to all ceramic artisans, verified through annual WFTO audits
- A portion of every export order funds Sana Hastakala's artisan training programme, which has trained 500+ new craft producers since 1989
- Zero intermediaries: Sana Hastakala manufactures, quality-checks, and exports directly — no agents or middlemen involved
Care Instructions
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth — avoid submerging in water after candle use as wax may have entered the base
- To remove residual wax: place the holder in the freezer for 30 minutes; the wax will contract and lift cleanly
- Suitable for standard 38 mm tealight candles only — do not use with pillar candles or open flames left unattended
- The ceramic base may mark wooden surfaces; use a protective coaster or felt pad underneath
- Minor colour variation between pieces is natural and part of the handmade character — not a manufacturing defect
