InquireWoven on traditional hand looms using time-honoured techniques, our cushion covers bring the texture and warmth of Nepali textiles into your living space. Every cover is finished with a coconut-shell button — a small detail that tells the full story of how this piece was made.
Materials Used
- Fibres: 100% cotton, or 50% wool / 50% cotton blend — fibre composition noted per product
- Closures: coconut shell buttons or natural toggles — no plastic fittings used anywhere in the construction
- Standard size: 50 cm × 50 cm, fitting a standard European cushion insert
- Dyes: reactive and natural dyes in a restrained palette — white, grey, black, mustard, brown, and teal green
- Weave patterns include diamond-pattern weave, plain stripe, and mixed-colour textured designs
Artisan Story
Nepali weaving has a history stretching back centuries, and our textile artisans — many of them women working from home-based looms or in cooperative workshops — carry that tradition forward every day. The diamond-pattern weave is one of our signature techniques: a rhythmic, interlocking design that requires careful counting and consistent loom tension throughout. Cooperative weaving gives artisans flexible hours alongside reliable income, meaning they can manage family responsibilities without sacrificing financial independence. Sana Hastakala works with weaving groups in Lalitpur and surrounding districts, providing raw materials, technical support, and fair pre-agreed pricing.
Fair Trade Impact
- Textile production is one of Sana Hastakala's primary income sources for home-based artisan women in Lalitpur and surrounding districts
- All artisans receive social security contributions and access to Sana Hastakala's community health fund
- WFTO certification guarantees no child labour, no forced labour, and gender-equal pay at every stage of production
- Bulk and wholesale orders directly sustain weaving cooperatives by providing predictable, planned income across the year
Care Instructions
- Machine wash on a gentle or delicate cycle at 30°C (86°F), or hand wash in cool water
- Wash dark colours separately for the first two to three washes to prevent colour transfer
- Do not tumble dry — lay flat or hang in shade to dry and maintain the woven structure
- Warm iron on the reverse side if needed; never iron directly over the buttons
- Dry clean recommended for wool-blend (50% wool) covers to preserve fibre integrity
